If there are two things I feel I have a hard time walking away from at thrift stores, it’s maps and brass. They are two things I see everywhere and two things that look great in any style of home! Maps seem to evoke so much emotion for so many people. Whether they are places we lived, destinations we traveled to or a reminder of where we would love to be! Maps are just awesome, wouldn’t you agree?! When I came across this raised relief map of California, I could NOT walk away.
This map is going to be a very sentimental piece for a long time. We are leaving in just a couple months and I know there are going to be days I am SO homesick for California. This will be a piece to truly remind us of our time here and how blessed we were to live in such an amazing place!
As much as I love brass, I don’t just grab anything I can get my hands on. To me, there is a fine line between good and bad brass pieces. The rule I use for myself when looking at brass is, does it remind me of my childhood in the 90s. If yes, I usually walk away! It seems too early to start redecorating my home with those pieces just yet. It’s all about the 60s and 70s for me and a few exceptions like this fabulous brass caribou!
And somehow, it’s magic when they are placed side by side! The whole corner of that little space has changed dramatically and I love it! It’s so nice to have the option of redecorating with thrift store finds when you are wanting to change things around once in a while. It feels so nostalgic, while the rest of the room still has those modern touches.
